Jack's only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry (Brenton Thwaites), a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has ever faced. Going back to the roots of the franchise (at least in plot) the fifth installment of the swasbuckling Disney's series is a lot more fun and entretaining that the previous one, with all around mostly funny lines, a heist that is easily one of the best moments of the franchise and a full circle in its story for the main characters of the series. Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazars Rache (2017. While Johny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow will probably never be as cool and interesting as he was whe the series started, I can say that al least in this movie he seems to try harder and that helps him be fun for the most part. The new characters are a little bit on the nose, but as a said, back to basics seems to do, and after all, in this kind of movies the basics work for the better. The villain is interesting for the most part and Javier Barden plays him fine, and the connection they make to Jack's past is actually very intersting. So all in all, an ok to good movie, with nice action, some funny lines, and good score all around. And really, just hearing the familiar notes of Klaus Badelt's theme makes me want to draw my sword and sail to the horizon, so the movie doesn't have to do much to entretain. This movie is not better that the first three, but at the very least, is does much better than the last one and gives me hope that the finale that is most certainly coming can recapture the seas at least one last time. Recommended for pirate's fans or action movie fans that are not expecting a grand thins. For everybody else, if you have a free afternoon maybe you can watch it, but don't expect that much. ![]() As an entertaining trilogy of films Pirates of the Caribbean has a huge following and high expectations. The film still has it funny quirks and is action filled but it lacked that the heart strings feel. I am not sure if it was my adoration for Will and Elizabeth from the previous films or the tragic love story of Davy Jones and Calypso but the romance fell short and forced. Still I was very entertained and not a moment fell short of laughter or action. I just missed the emotional response of wanting to cry to grip me fully into the film. Fanboys of the Pirates franchise will find some enjoyment out of this film, but for the rest of us, it's almost a complete mess. First off, the plot is wildly redundant to the predecessors in a lame attempt to recapture the glory of the earlier films. It features Jack alongside a young girl and guy (not to be confused with Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann) on a mission while being hunted by the undead (again). While the acting by the recurring actors and new ones is solid, the characters are not. It was quite sad seeing Jack Sparrow devolve into a drunken idiot from a cunning funny pirate in the first three films, while the new characters were forgettable. The producers and directors seemed to have lost touch with what makes Jack great. Secondly, the action is not nearly as engaging, with a lot of the set pieces seemingly pulled from other non-pirates movies. Lastly, the film is far too long and not fun enough. Although it has a few nice moments, Dead Men Tell No Tales is a tale that should not have been told. Dead men tell no tales is fenomenal to look at, but insufferable to watch. Jack Sparrow used to be a smart and fun character that eventually would amaze his surroundings. But instead in this 5th sequel he turned into an expired pirate who only communicates via short one-liners with no comedic content. This was by far the worst movie I've seen since many years back and it was a complete disappointment.
